Father Daniel McCormack

Father Daniel McCormack was ordained in 1994 and served in the Archdiocese of Chicago for about ten years before being arrested for sexually abuse a child and sent to prison in 2007.

McCormack was first accused of sexual abuse of a boy while in the seminary in Mexico in the early 1990s and again in 1999 of abusing an altar boy while at Loyola University. Although he was arrested in August of 2005 on credible allegations of sexually abusing a child, church officials continued him in ministry and promoted him as Dean of the Deanery later that year. Arrested again in 2006, McCormack was finally removed from ministry. In 2007, he pleaded guilty to the abuse of five boys, some which occurred after his first arrest in 2005. He was subsequently sentenced to five years in prison.

As of 2010, there are 23 known survivors who have credibly accused McCormack of sexually abusing them as children. Multiple civil lawsuit have been filed against the diocese and McCormack in which settlements for over $10M have been paid to survivors. Currently there are several survivors are awaiting resolutions of civil suit they have filed against McCormack and it is believed that many more victims still suffer in silence.
